The Clinico Pathological Conference (CPC) provided an opportunity for ophthalmology residents-in-training, working as a team, to analyze unknown cases, formulate differential diagnoses, demonstrate analytical thinking and pathologic correlation to the clinical aspects of the disease. Fourteen (14) teams from Philippine Board of Ophthalmology (PBO) - accredited ophthalmology residency training programs participated in the contest: East Avenue Medical Center DOH Eye Center, Fatima University Medical Center, Far Eastern University-NRMF J.B Lingad Memorial Hospital, Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center, Makati Medical Center, Manila Central University Hospital, Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center, Quirino Memorial Medical Center, Rizal Medical Center, Santo Tomas University Hospital, St. Luke’s Medical Center, University of the East–Ramon Magsaysay Foundation, and University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital. The contest had two rounds: the qualifying and final rounds. There were three qualifying rounds which determined the team finalists for the contest. Their discussions focused on the development of differential diagnoses, the most likely disease entity, and the process of narrowing down the differential diagnoses. Aspects of management or therapy were also included.

After the case discussions of the three team finalists, each of the three judges addressed a question to the team finalists. The judges for the final rounds were: (1) Dr. Leonardo Mangubat (Chairman), Orbit & Oculoplasty Section Chief, Department of Ophthalmology, Makati Medical Center; (2) Dr. Eric Domingo from Ophthalmic Oncology and Pathology, Institute of Ophthalmology, University of the Philippines- PGH; and (3) Dr. Mary Rose Pe-Yan, Orbit Section Chief, Department of Ophthalmology, University of the Philippines- PGH.
