Walk for Sight 2017

by Lee Tomas Obias Tan, MD

Last August 6, 2017, the U.P Philippine General Hospital Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences joined the Department of Health’s Walk for Sight 2017. This year’s theme was “Mas Makikita ang Forever kung ang Eyesight ay Better".

The day started dark and gloomy with a strong downpour of rain but luckily the sun came out just before the program began. The walk started in front of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas where several other institutions gathered. Different training programs joined the march such as St. Luke’s Medical Center, Cardinal Santos Medical Center, East Avenue Medical Center, Manila Doctors Hospital, UST Hospital, University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, Quirino Memorial Medical Center, and several other training institutions. The long march was full of small reunions and storytelling among colleagues.

The parade reached its end at Luneta Park, appropriately in front of the statue of our national hero. A small ceremony spearheaded by the Department of Health Secretary, Dra Ubial, was held in front of a line of soldiers. The program was then closed with the singing of our national anthem.
