Showing Beyond Telling: What Eye Must Know

by Frances Andrea Añover, MD

It was a rather engaging and learning-packed weekend at the Philippine Lung Center Auditorium last August 4 and 5, 2017. The Department of Health Eye Center – East Avenue Medical Center hosted their 26th postgraduate course, entitled Showing Beyond Telling: What Eye Must KnowThe course was held over one and a half days.

The program kicked off with welcoming remarks from the DOH Eye Center Chairman, Dr. Reynaldo Santos. It was then followed by featured talks about Cornea and External Disease, Pediatric Ophthalmology, Oculoplastics and Orbit, Retina, Glaucoma, and Cataract. It showcased selected topics about what a general ophthalmologist should be competent in. The lectures were given by the esteemed consultants of the DOH Eye Center in their respective subspecialties. Apart from delivering textbook knowledge and surgical technique, the lectures were supplemented by videos from the specialists themselves, with the intention of giving practical advice based on experience. The talks were followed by interactive discussions with the audience, in which experts and ophthalmologists-in-training alike were able to ask for helpful tips and tricks from our highly experienced staff.

The event was well attended with a total of 321 participants for the whole course, the highest turnout rate in years. Feedback for the course was overwhelmingly positive, with many of the participants saying they appreciated the concise, straight-to-the-point lectures that could be easily applied to both training and practice.

The DOH Eye Center would like to thank everyone for their participation, and we hope to see you again next year!
